The volcano has a 1.5-kilometre wide summit caldera which is open to the east. The highest summit (4680 m) is called Pico del Fraile. We reached the summit rather fast, though it was snowing and rather windy. Near the summit Nevado de Toluca has a cold alpine climate with cold temperatures year round and though we experienced a stormy weather it was indeed fun!”
